Choose clean, neutral, coordinating shoes and avoid overly athletic shoes unless they fit the vibe of your session. Sneakers, boots, loafers, sandals, or heels can all work. 

Here are a few of the other details to pay attention to as you're planning your wardrobe:

• Jewelry and accessories: Simple pieces tend to photograph best. Small hoops, studs, layered necklaces, watches or meaningful jewelry can subtly elevate your overall look. Choose pieces that complement, not overpower. 
• Layers: Jackets, cardigans, flannels, vests, and pullovers can add depth and texture to your images. (And can also be easily added and removed to give your gallery more variety). 
• Hair: Get trims or touch-ups a week or two before your session, but avoid drastic last-minute changes. If you have longer hair, curling or styling it can add volume and is another way to add texture to your photos. An engagement session is a great excuse to pamper yourself and get your hair styled professionally (optional, of course, but it can be a big confidence boost!)  
• Nails: Your nails will be highly visible in your engagement photos — after all, your photographer is going to be snapping shots of that ring! That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go out and get a professional manicure, but you should at least make sure your nails are clean and neatly trimmed. If you want to wear polish, neutral or soft colors photograph best, but bold colors can work if they match your overall look. And if you'll be wearing sandals or open-toe shoes, the same rules apply to your toenails!
• Makeup: If you wear makeup, you will want to match your look to the overall vibe of your session — whether that means sticking with your everyday look, going slightly more polished, or going full glam. Again, professional makeup is always an option if you want more confidence.

Spring is a gorgeous time to take engagement pictures in Kansas City, especially if you want a lighter, airier session that feels simple and sweet.
